Meatloaf Master Recipe
1 egg
1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 1/2 lb. lean ground beef
2 tsp vegetable oil
1 onion, chopped
vegetables, flavourings and toppers as in alternative recipes

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (180 degrees C). In large bowl and using fork, beat egg; blend in bread crumbs, salt and pepper.

Mix in beef. In large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add Vegetables and onion; cook for 3 minutes. Let cool slightly; add to bowl. Add Flavourings. Mix to combine. Pack into 8-x 4-inch (1.5 L) loaf pan. Spread with toppers. Bake on baking sheet for 60 to 75 minutes or until meat thermometer registers 170 degrees F (75 degrees C).

Let stand for 5 minutes, drain off fat.
